Scholarship Program
Principia Green Team is pleased to announce its scholarship initiative for the 2010-2011 academic year for high schools and community organizations participating in the Green Initiative recycling program. Funding for the scholarships detailed below is raised through the recycling and refurbishing of e-waste and related items.
Two scholarships will be awarded at participating institutions: the Green Science Award and the Green Citizen Award. Candidates for these awards will be college bound high school seniors in good standing at their respective institutions. Judgment of candidates will be conducted by the faculty and administrators of participating high schools. Candidates will be evaluated according to the criteria below:
The Green Science Award: Qualified candidates will be high school seniors admitted to one or more four-year degree granting colleges or universities who have excelled in the science curriculum offered in their secondary schools. Candidates will have shown promise in scientific or engineering research, and intend to major in environmental science, or a related field of study. We specifically wish to reward students who have shown initiative in their science or engineering classes regarding environmental problems and related issues of recycling and containment. The ideal candidate for this award would combine strong scientific or engineering skills with a commitment to environmental issues.
The Green Citizen Award: Qualified Candidates will be high school seniors admitted to one or more four-year degree granting colleges or universities who have excelled in the business or social science curriculum offered in their secondary schools, and who have shown commitment to community service, especially in recycling or related efforts, environmental projects, or similar endeavors. The ideal candidate for this award would excel at community related problem solving, consensus building, and the enactment of practical solutions.
Our intention at Principia NP and Principia Green Team is to fund these scholarships, and set the criteria, but not to judge the candidates. For this purpose it will be necessary to involve the faculty and administration at each participating institution to set specific criteria and procedures for the judgment of candidates. We look to the administrators and guidance officers at each participating high school to oversee the selection process and enact procedures that are fair, thorough, and non-discriminatory. We look to the faculty of the respective high schools to choose candidates in line with our objectives of spreading awareness of the need for education to address issues related to waste disposal and recycling.
